Adelaide History

The Ukrainian Youth Association "Plast" was established in Adelaide in 1949.  In 1950 a senior scout body was formed becoming the Federal Plast Executive headed by R.M. Olesnickyi with members Ye. Hurko M. Shevczuk Ye. and Ya. Andruhovych.  1957 saw the formation of the "Plast Priiat" auxillary group and the "Taras Chuprynka Boys Legion" followed in 1959 by the "Lesia Ukrainka Girls Legion".

In 1966 a 46 acre property at Lower Hermitage was purchased named "Beskyd".  The first camp was held 1966-67.  ²n 1971-72 1986-87 and 2006-07 Adelaide scouts hosted International Plast Jamborees.  Beskyd was sold in 2005 with Plast utilising other sites in and around Adelaide for its camps.

In 1981 the National Plast Museum was established in Adelaide and has extensive holdings of Plast history in Australia and overseas.

Adelaide scouts have taken part in jamborees in the USA Canada Germany and the Phillippines.
